After painting seriously, but briefly, during college, I returned to art in 1998. (A career in social services and court administration intervened, leaving little time for art during my “middle period.”)
Art is now my primary activity, apart from the demands of daily living, and I paint every day. I have studied with Irene Sylvester, artist-in-residence at Montpelier Arts Center (Laurel, Maryland), Frank Webb (AWS), Kent Roberts, Marie McCafferty, Lynn Ferris, (NWS) and Schuler School of Fine Art instructors Fritz Briggs, (NWS,) and David Buckley Good, and Schuler-trained painter Michael T. Davis.
I work in watercolor, oil and pastel, using the medium that best suits the subject. As an artist, my goal is to focus attention, if only briefly, on the beauty in the things around us that often escape our notice as we rush about our daily lives.
I have exhibited at various juried venues: Valley Art Association Mansion House (Hagerstown, MD), the Ice House and Art in the Park (Berkeley Springs,WV), the Washington County (MD) Arts Council, the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, the Washington Street Artists’ Co-op (Charles Town, WV) and Seneca Rocks (WV) Discovery Center.
I am active in four arts organizations and two local historical societies, and wish I could do more! I can be contacted at susanparker@frontier.com.
