Monica Wilkins
I have been painting since I was 12 and have never stopped…My formal art training was in Illustration and Advertising Art and Design in 1968-70. Now I enjoy all the endless possibilities of freedom of expression that the fine art field allows. I continued to paint while raising my children but went back into full swing within the last 15 years. I have participated in workshops with Ron Thurston, Phil Salvato, Skip Lawrence, Don Andrews, Karlyn Holman, Judi Betts and Bob Burridge. Their new ideas have helped me visualize and paint the emotional responses that occur daily from gestures, shapes, colors or any number of things. I try to capture that element visually and hopefully, this visual experience lifts the viewer in a positive way.
I am a signature member of the West Virginia Watercolor Society and a member of the Pittsburgh Watercolor Society. Watercolor is my main medium but I also paint with acrylics and oils. I was commissioned to paint a wall mural at the Slight Indulgence Wine Café in Morgantown, WV. It is there that I have had 4 solo shows. While residing in Morgantown I taught watercolor classes at the Morgantown Art Association Gallery. My husband and I became residents of Shepherdstown in 2012. I am currently involved with the Friday Painters Group and the Potomac River Artists Guild. In Shepherdstown I have had a solo shows at the Devonshire Restaurant as well as group shows at the Community Club and the Frederick Unitarian Church gallery. was published in Fluent magazine in the Spring issue 2014.
