George Knipe
I was born in Martinsburg WV. As a child, I was always inspired by the Old Masters. I am a self taught artist and I have been an artist all my life. It is something I need to do to express my thoughts and emotions.
My subjects are from ordinary everyday life of the American Landscape, its people, and forgotten objects. I paint mostly in oils. I use strong light and color and the way they play on my subject is an important part of everything I paint. As an avid antique collector, I include many unique items from my collection in my paintings, as well as many old photographs of local farms that have been destroyed long ago for landscape paintings. I am a registered artist at the West Virginia Division of Culture And History. I am a Juried Member of Tamarack, The Best Of West Virginia, and member of the Potomac River Artist Guild. Also, I am a past juried member of OPA (Oil Painters of America). My paintings hang throughout the United States and Europe in private and corporate collections. I have exhibited at: the Mid Atlantic Art Exhibition; The Cumberland Valley Artist Exhibition; Shepherd College Creative Arts Center; Boarman Arts Center; West Virginia Juried Exhibition; West Virginia Invitational Exhibition at the Capital and; Art In Every Office. Also: Invitational Show 8 x 10, Washington County Museum Of Fine Arts Traveling Show; Washington County Museum Of Fine Arts; Hampshire County Juried Exhibition, 2009; Art At The Mill, Millwood VA; Invitational Show at the Ice House, Berkeley Springs WV; The Bridge Gallery, Shepherdstown WV; and David Dickerson Fine Art Gallery.
