From early childhood I wanted to be an artist. I was always drawing and creating fashion illustrations and painting on anything worth painting on. Life did not afford me the opportunity to use my scholarship to the NY Institution of Arts when I was 17. I was crushed, but never gave up the dream. I created my art anyway I could, on whatever I could for many years.
In Hawaii, in 1977-78 I took up water color painting and studied with a local artist which helped me focus on my art. I later ventured into acrylics and pastels but still primarily work in water colors.
I have studied with a few artists and am grateful for knowledge that I have gleaned from others. I paint to please myself and have to be inspired to be happy with my renderings. My work runs from impressionistic to interpretative and abstract. I float from precise tight lines to washy and free flowing works depending on how I feel about the subject.
I joined the Potomac River Artist Guild 10 years ago and have served on the Executive Board for many years. I still study, and I strive to remain true to how I feel about what I paint. I teach a beginners water color class at my church. I also enjoy and share a home with my husband of 34 years who frames and mats all my works. A published poet, I also write and I sing and perform.
I live artistically yet my favorite role these days is being a “Nana” to my two grandsons. I can be contacted at eBethmc9@gmail.com.
